About the collection Our Run
How wonderful that this little book became a reality in a country not distinguished by fine prose labelled “literature for children and young people”. The collection Our Run was published in the late 1970s and became a much sought-after little book — one that also fell apart rather easily. So it very quickly vanished from the shops, despite its substantial print run. We would now like to explain why it was never reissued, but would find that difficult. It would be just as difficult to explain, for example, why the wise story The Dogs, which fully belonged in this collection, was left out, while the splendid work The Punishment, actually a novella, was called a short story and included in the book: Soviet censorship and publishing criteria often produced very strange results. Yet look: at Matevossian’s suggestion, Varuzhan Vardanyan, an artist already making a name for himself, created the book’s graphic illustrations. And look: the stories published issue by issue in the magazines Tsitsernak and Pioner came together with their beloved author under the cover of this little book.
So today let us celebrate this book’s second birth and encourage children, adolescents, young people and adults alike to pick up Our Run and read it.
