The initiative began as part of a project competition announced by the Visual Armenia Development Foundation. Our project was dedicated to Hrant Matevossian.
Its starting point was a passage from Matevossian’s essay “When Sleep Seems Like Salvation”. The passage inspired us to launch a long-term, wide-ranging initiative to clean and care for the natural environment.
“Ruined hillsides, broken fences, houses longing for repair, bad roads and poisoned waters—all this in a country that once flourished. I would like my country to be restored: for us to make these earth-coloured slopes bloom, repair the fences and old houses, clean the villages, revive the gardens and heal the waters. Then our children could discover the beauty of life and the wonder of this infinitely beautiful world here, in their own country, rather than arrive in America with empty pockets and cherish from afar an image of the land in bloom.”
We joined this care for nature with the need to protect cultural heritage. Clean-up work was also carried out around the village chapel known as Zoravor. Project lead: Sirush Karyan.
