I was to travel from Dilijan to Gyumri. David said that somewhere along the way I would come across his father’s village, Ahnidzor, although I was unlikely to see it from the highway. In other words, it seemed to be here, and yet not here. I thought this was a metaphor for literature — at least, that is how it ought to be. Despite David’s words, I peered at the approaching hills, hoping that I would see Ahnidzor after all. But I saw only Tsmakut.
